Does the department of transportation want an interface to input/maintain data directly in the system or will all the data be maintained in outside locations and pulled into the system?

New data sets should be provided from the department to the vendor to integrate and normalize into the platform.

Does the 'Data Story' need to be automatically published to the City Data Portal on a regular basis or can the system just allow it to be exported into an image/PDF so it can be posted manually?

Given the investment required for developing the solution, we have concerns regarding the requirement for code escrow. Is this a mandatory requirement for this challenge?

Vendors may object to the City’s Standard Terms and Conditions through Form 3. Taking exceptions will not immediately disqualify a vendor from consideration.

Simple sorting or reporting would be of interest but we are not necessarily looking for a platform that would provide reports as a primary function. We are mostly looking for ways to visualize and aggregate transportation data from multiple sources.

for new datasets / data sources, does the department of transportation require a system that allows staff to integrate the new data sources (e.g. spreadsheets) themselves? or is it ok if all data integrations are performed by the startup?

Ultimately the data platform should be able to integrate unlimited relevant datasets including 3rd party data from IoT devices or connected vehicles.

What are the expected number of users and general categories of those users job roles during the Residency Period and Initial Term?

The platform should be able to support up to 500 accounts for the Department of Transportation in the first iteration of the project. All of these users will be employees of the Department of Transportation, with categories ranging from Planning, Operations, Parking, and Infrastructure Maintenance.

Am I correctly interpreting that after the product is provided free of charge during the 16 week Residency Period, there is a 50k maximum for the Initial Term and each of the subsequent optional years? Could you also elaborate on what the plan or potential possibilities for the platform after option years 1 & 2?

Correct, the expectation during the Residency Period is to provide a “proof of concept” at no cost, the scope of which will be determined collaboratively between the vendor and the City. The $50k budget is allocated for the Initial Term, with plans for platform expansion to be defined, scoped, and budgeted based on the needs of the project.

This solution sounds like an IoT device versus a transportation data platform. It would therefore not respond to the solution requirements listed.

This is a really interesting and complex challenge. I am interested in it for a variety reasons, including that I grew up in San Jose and I am fascinated by transportation. Is there a particular problem that you are facing right now that we could immediately solve? That way, we could provide value right away and then continue to add value over time.
